Meet The Team
Lee-Ann, Emma & Olivia are the co-founders of Align Pilates & Physiotherapy. With over 40 years clinical experience, they work together in the Regional Trauma unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. Their work involves treating patients following surgery for a wide variety of upper and lower limb injuries, pelvic and spinal injuries and those poly-trauma patients with a combination of complex injuries. Pilates has been used in this environment with great success as the girls have found it to be adaptable for use with a wide range of conditions and ages. They share a passion for Pilates and are all trained through the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI). To find out more about them and their qualifications click on their names below.
Lee-Ann Clarke studied Sports Medicine and graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2001. She qualified as a physiotherapist in 2004 upon completion of a MSc. Physiotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian University. After qualifying, Lee-Ann moved to Manchester in an attempt to fulfil her childhood dream of being ‘physio for Man Utd’. Well almost…. She worked at Manchester City FC for 3 years, with responsibility for U8-U18 Academy Squads. Alongside this she worked in private practice and as a rotational physiotherapist in Stepping Hill Hospital and Fairfield General Hospital. She moved home to Northern Ireland in 2008 to take up her current post in the RVH. Lee-Ann’s areas of personal interests are rehab after Pelvic Trauma/injury and rehab of the complex knee. Lee-Ann has used the principles of Pilates with her clinical population and in addition believes Pilates is invaluable with all sports both recreational and professional. She has used Pilates for football, hockey, golf and cyclists. Lee-Ann herself is enthusiastic about all sport and particularly enjoys cycling, playing golf and going to the gym. Along with Emma, she was part of the medical team who supported the England Touch Rugby Squads at the World Cup in Edinburgh in 2011. Lee-Ann is a Certified Golf conditioning coach, having trained in the Pilates for Golf Programme with ‘Hole in one Fitness’. She has also completed her Acupuncture training and is a member of the AACP (Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists).
Emma Crawford qualified as a physiotherapist from University of Ulster in 1999, completing a Masters Degree in 2008. Her physiotherapy career has been spent rotating through many areas of physiotherapy including Musculoskeletal Outpatients, Regional Intensive Care Unit, Paediatrics, Respiratory and Neurology. Currently Emma specialises in Trauma and Orthopaedics with a specific interest in fracture rehab. During a year travelling in New Zealand Emma had the opportunity to work in a variety of sports injury clinics, developing manual therapy skills and experiencing Pilates for the first time. She was physio for Ulster U18 rugby squad for 3 years and was part of 2011 English Touch Rugby World Cup medical team. In addition to this Emma is a qualified fitness instructor and worked in this industry for many years alongside her career as a physiotherapist. She is a fully certified APPI Pilates Instructor, participating in annual training updates.
Olivia Davidson studied Biomedical Science at Queens University Belfast and graduated in 1995. She then went on to study Physiotherapy at University of Ulster and graduated in 1999. She has also since qualified as a Reflexologist in 2001 and has gained further qualifications in Maternity Reflexology in 2004. Olivia has worked as a physiotherapist in the Midland Regional hospital Mullingar, Daisy Hill Hospital, Musgrave Park Hospital and over 16 years in the Royal Hospital. She has rotated through all the specialities and currently works in Trauma and Orthopaedics with a particular interest in lower limb injuries and Ilizarov external fixation. Olivia attended Pilates classes for over 10 years which inspired her to become a Pilates instructor. She is a fully certified APPI Pilates Instructor, keeping up to date with continued professional development Pilates courses annually. Olivia also enjoys running, playing golf and is a Certified Golf Conditioning Coach, having trained in the Pilates for Golf Programme with ‘Hole in one Fitness’. Olivia has a keen interest in ante natal /post natal Pilates and Pilates for golf.
