is for those with little or no Pilates experience. Beginners classes are also focus to help people with existing pain get back exercising again. We use the evidence and research available that exercise programmes (such as Pilates) designed and developed to strengthen the stability muscles of the spine and pelvis can reduce back pain and help prevent its reoccurrence.
The classes use a range of small Pilates equipment including resistance bands and ova balls to progress from static stabilisation to more dynamic functional stabilisation as able. Pilates exercises can be modified to specifically cater for a number of conditions including:
- Low back pain/Pelvic Pain
- Rheumatoid Arthritis/Osteoarthritis
- Generalised joint pain
We recommend those new to Pilates complete at least one 6 week session of Beginners Pilates before progressing to a Mixed Ability class. Your instructor will help inform this decision.
These classes are for those who have attended at least one 6 week Beginners block of classes and are looking for a bit more of a challenge. They involve teaching the progressions of the basic Pilates exercises, utilising more equipment and incorporating more of a cardio workout as these classes would be slightly quicker-paced than beginners.
This hour long session with a physiotherapist will give you an opportunity to discuss any personal injuries or symptoms you may have. It will enable us to introduce you to the Pilates method in addition to prescribing Pilates exercises that will specifically benefit you.
Many people prefer to do this, especially those new to Pilates. We provide flexible times throughout the day and week to accomodate your busy timetable.
The session can be conducted in your home if you have a suitable space or at the Loughshore hotel where our Pilates classes are held.
Prenatal Pilates is for women who want to continue exercising in a safe manner whilst pregnant. The prenatal classes are suitable for pregnant women from 14 weeks. This course is modified to adapt to the changes a woman’s body goes through before and after birth. Prenatally it can help maintain the strength of the pelvic floor and abdominals, whilst teaching you how to control your breathing and relaxation for use during labour. Postnatal; after 6 weeks (12 weeks with C-section), you are welcome to join our Beginners Pilates classes to help regain your abdominal and pelvic floor strength.
If you have suffered Diastasis Recti during your pregnancy we highly recommend a 1-2-1 session with one of our physiotherapists before joining a class.
We will ask you to complete a pre-screening Questionnaire before enrolling in our Pilates programmes. If required, we will invite you to attend a one to one with a physiotherapist. This allows us to assess your strengths and weaknesses individually and ensures that the exercises prescribed will be of maximum benefit to you.
